The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for an immediate reduction in petrol prices, a wage increase for workers nationwide, and the start of talks on a new national minimum wage, citing the high cost of living. The union blamed the worsening hardship on rising fuel prices following the removal of subsidies in 2023. It demanded the immediate payment of a 35,000 Naira wage award for federal, state, and local government workers to counteract the decline in real income caused by soaring transportation, food, rent, and school fees.
