ODPP Approves Prosecution of 37 Suspects Over Deadly South C Building Collapse

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has approved the prosecution of 37 individuals, including senior Nairobi County officials, for the collapse of a 16-storey building in Nairobi's South C area in January 2026 that killed two people. Charges include abuse of office, neglect of official duty, manslaughter, making false documents, and commencing a project without an Environmental Impact Assessment license. Among the suspects is the suspended Nairobi County Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning, from whom the EACC recovered about Ksh65 million in a raid. The ODPP stated that the evidence was sufficient to warrant prosecution.
