Official: CAF restores the Africa Cup of Nations to a biennial schedule

The CAF has confirmed that the Africa Cup of Nations will return to a biennial schedule, abandoning its four-year reform. Patrice Motsepe said the decision aims to protect the interests of the 54 member associations and African players; CAF believes a proposed Pan-African Nations League would take several years to generate sufficient revenue. After the 2027 tournament in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, the next editions are scheduled for 2028, 2031 and 2033. The three-year gap between 2028 and 2031 is intended in part to avoid holding the tournament in the year of the 2030 World Cup.
