Ohanaeze Ndigbo calls for national emergency on Owerri-Aba Federal Highway

Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called the condition of the Owerri-Aba Federal Highway a national emergency and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Works Minister David Umahi to begin urgent repairs, followed by comprehensive reconstruction and dualisation. The organisation criticised Hope Uzodimma, governor and chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, for failing to secure sustained federal attention and questioned the tangible benefits his regional leadership has delivered. It said the road exposes motorists to accidents, long journeys and economic losses, while disrupting businesses and goods movement across the South-East. A statement signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Professor Chibuikeya Achoakawa identified the Nekede Polytechnic Junction–Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport Junction and Ngo-Okpala–Owerrinta stretches as especially deteriorated.
