One law, many borders: EAC targets trafficking loopholes

The East African Community (EAC) has revived a proposed law to harmonise responses to human trafficking. The draft legislation, the Counter Trafficking in Persons Bill, 2026, aims to close legal gaps by standardising penalties and strengthening cross-border enforcement. It also proposes a coordinated regional framework to protect vulnerable groups, especially women and children.
