Online piracy in SA, Kenya and Nigeria gets scrutinised in new research partnership

A new research collaboration between the Motion Picture Association (MPA) and Nelson Mandela University aims to examine the link between online piracy, cybersecurity threats, and the creative economy in South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria. The initial project will investigate cybersecurity risks faced by consumers accessing pirated content, including exposure to malware, fraud, and identity theft. This partnership, the first of its kind in Africa for the MPA, seeks to generate locally relevant evidence to support policymakers and enforcement agencies in combating online piracy.
