OPEC+ holds December oil output steady to support market stability

At a virtual meeting on November 1, 2026, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman agreed to keep their December required production levels at the levels set for September 2026. The decision is intended to support stability in the global oil market and uphold the Declaration of Cooperation. The seven countries’ combined required output is 31.01 million barrels per day, including 10.478 million for Saudi Arabia and 9.949 million for Russia. They will continue monthly market reviews, with the next meeting set for November 29; an analyst said the decision could support crude prices and Nigeria’s revenue.

Closure of two roads disrupts supplies and drives up prices in Walikale

The closures of the Nyabiondo-Kashebere-Walikale and Nyabiondo-Mutongo-Pinga roads, attributed to authorities of the Front pour la refondation de la nation (FRN), are disrupting supplies to several areas of Walikale in North Kivu. FEC territorial president John Muganguzi says traders are struggling with shortages, while the detour via Bukavu, Bulambika and Hombo has increased motorcycle taxi operators’ costs, forcing some to suspend work. In Pinga, a sachet of salt now sells for 5,000 Congolese francs, up from 1,500, and Walikale civil society president Fiston Misona is calling for the roads to reopen quickly.

The shipments would pass through a US intermediary, and the White House reportedly proposed placing the proceeds in an escrow account in a third country. The proposal follows several US steps easing pressure on Moscow, including a license allowing transactions involving Russian diesel and the suspension of sanctions and tariffs. Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the decisions; Russia now supplies 11% of Europe’s gas consumption, down from 45% before the war.
