The 21st edition of DRC Mining Week opened on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, in Lubumbashi, with over 300 exhibitors. Under the theme of local mineral transformation, Mines Minister Louis Watum Kabamba announced the first commercial production of Congolese lithium in the second half of 2026. Haut-Katanga Governor Martin Kazembe Shula announced the establishment of a battery assembly plant for electric vehicles in the province.

Centum property dollar fund hits Sh3.9bn target

Centum's dollar-denominated TRIFIC property fund has met its target of raising Sh3.86 billion ($29.83 million), with subscriptions at 103.3% oversubscribed. Investor bids topped Sh3.99 billion. The Two Rivers Special Economic Zone (TRIFIC) took up units worth Sh966.1 million by transferring the TRIFIC North Tower to the fund, becoming its first asset. The REIT, mandated to distribute 80% of net profit as dividends, will be listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange on June 29 at a valuation of Sh4.83 billion.

Over 100 governments, businesses and civil society organizations announced 320 new commitments valued at US$6.4 billion to advance ocean conservation, sustainable fisheries, climate resilience and the blue economy at the 2026 Our Ocean Conference, which concluded today in Mombasa, Kenya. Kenya committed US$200 million to install electronic monitoring on all industrial fishing vessels. French Polynesia plans to strengthen protections in the Tainui Atea marine protected area. Canada committed US$682 million to the Small Crafts Harbours Program, and the World Bank Group announced US$1 billion for sustainable blue economies in developing countries.
