Opening of Benin’s parliamentary session: MPs praise Djogbénou’s speech

At the opening of Benin’s second ordinary parliamentary session of 2026, several MPs praised a speech by National Assembly President Joseph Djogbénou. MP Charlemagne Yankoty welcomed tributes to writer Olympe Bhêly-Quenum, who turned 100 this year, and to Beninese artists and athletes including Angélique Kidjo and Romaine Gandonou. He also emphasized Djogbénou’s call for elected representatives to address social vulnerabilities through legislation and consideration of the 2027 budget, providing the government with resources to act.
