Naomi Osaka lost 6-3, 7-5 to 18-year-old Slovak Mia Pohankova, ranked 144th, in the second round of the Tokyo Open, ending her season. The former world number one, now ranked 18th, has won no titles this year and has not reached a Grand Slam final since returning after a 15-month break following the birth of her daughter in 2023. Osaka said she was at peace with herself, felt good about her game and would keep trying to contend for Grand Slam titles. Appearing at the tournament for the first time in four years, she also drew attention in a red kimono-style gown.
