Osun JUSUN Demands Fairness in Appointment of Judicial Commission Secretary

JUSUN’s Osun State branch says qualified career administrative officers should be eligible to become secretary of the Osun State Judicial Service Commission and should not be excluded simply because they are not lawyers. In a statement by state chairman Idris Adedayo Adeniran, the union said the Gazette cited by Mrs Fagbola concerns retirement-age extensions and is not the law establishing the commission. JUSUN pointed to former non-lawyer secretaries and argued that lawyers’ past appointments do not establish a legal requirement to reserve the role for legal practitioners. It also sought clarification about the proposed transfer of Kola Isiaka Alao, director of administration and supplies, and claims that he was assigned to a non-existent office.

Shinkafi asks INEC to withdraw Ya’u’s name as APC senatorial candidate in Zamfara

Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove Senator Sahabi Alhaji Ya’u from the APC candidate list for Zamfara North Senatorial District. On October 20, the Court of Appeal in Sokoto dismissed Ya’u’s appeal and upheld the Federal High Court in Gusau’s decision nullifying the disputed primary and ordering a fresh one. In a letter dated October 27, Shinkafi’s lawyer urged INEC to withdraw Ya’u’s name until a new primary is held or the Supreme Court gives a final ruling. Shinkafi said keeping the candidacy in place could prevent the APC from fielding a candidate and jeopardise its participation in the 2027 general elections.
