Outcry in Sudan as US reportedly holds al-Burhan’s UN visa over truce plan

Sudanese activists and journalists criticized the United States after reports that Washington withheld army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s UN visa to pressure him into accepting a ceasefire proposal. Al-Burhan, Sudan's de facto leader since 2019, has been fighting the RSF paramilitary forces since April 2023. The conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, widespread hunger, and displacement in Sudan.
