Over 10,000 Gender-Based Violence Cases Recorded Since January 2026 in Ituri

Since the beginning of 2026, over 10,000 cases of gender-based violence have been recorded in Ituri, following more than 20,000 cases in 2025. The Provincial Division of Gender, Family, and Children stated that ongoing armed conflicts and sociocultural pressures weaken women's rights. A forum held in Bunia adopted an action plan based on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 to increase women's participation in conflict prevention and resolution.
