Overcrowding in Mbuji-Mayi Central Prison Leads to Rising Tuberculosis Cases

Over 450 inmates live in extremely poor conditions at Mbuji-Mayi Central Prison, which was built to hold 150 people. Overcrowding, malnutrition, and unsanitary conditions promote the spread of tuberculosis, with more than 80 inmates infected. Overcrowding, poor ventilation, and filth facilitate the rapid transmission of respiratory diseases.

DCI Arrests 13 Suspects in International Fake Gold and Dollar Syndicate

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested 13 suspects, including three police officers and foreign nationals, in Nairobi, linked to an international fake gold and counterfeit U.S. dollar syndicate. The suspects were detained shortly after leaving Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, during an operation that seized 65 fake gold bars and 31 packages of counterfeit USD worth $750,000. Authorities also recovered equipment used for manufacturing fake currency and vehicles with fake government stickers. The suspects include Administration Police officers assigned to the Security of Government Buildings, as well as nationals from Nigeria, Sudan, Canada, and the DRC.
