FG launches probe into 37 deaths in NSCDC custody, suspends 21

The federal government has formed a ten-member committee to investigate the 37 deaths that occurred in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State, related to illegal mining suspicions. Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced the immediate suspension of 21 involved officers, including the Niger State Commandant. The committee, chaired by Mr. Jonathan Kure, is tasked with determining the circumstances of the deaths and recommending measures to prevent future incidents.
