Paid millions to stay at home

Suspended Ekurhuleni Deputy Chief of Police Julius Mkhwanazi remains on full pay while disciplinary and criminal proceedings continue, costing the state about R800 million a year. Mkhwanazi has been suspended since November 11 of last year and has been arrested five times, facing multiple criminal charges, including allegations tied to emergency vehicle fraud. The total cost of his suspension to date is R1,272,211.
