Pakistan-administered Kashmir votes for president amid unrest

Lawmakers in Pakistan-administered Kashmir voted on Thursday to elect a president, filling the region’s last vacant constitutional office since January. Najeeb Naqi Khan, the PML-N candidate, is expected to win. The region remains tense with ongoing protests, and seven seats are still vacant due to districts that have yet to vote. The election took place at the assembly secretariat in Muzaffarabad between 10am and 1pm local time, with the president elected by a simple majority of 27 votes.
