Pakistan imposes emergency rule in province governed by Imran Khan’s party

Pakistani authorities have declared a state of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the northwest. The emergency, invoked under two constitutional security articles, effectively suspends the provincial government led by Imran Khan's PTI, who has been in jail for over three years but remains widely popular. President Asif Ali Zardari approved the decision following a cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who criticized the provincial government's disengagement from the fight against terrorism. The move comes as PTI prepares a march to Islamabad demanding Khan's release.
