The National Assembly Department Committee on Education, chaired by Julius Melly, resolved to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into school fires and property destruction. At least 47 fire incidents have been recorded in 204 schools since January, according to the Kenya Red Cross. Committee members raised concerns over overcrowding, commercialisation of education, drug abuse, and poor communication between students and administrations. The chairperson directed that all previous reports on school unrest be compiled to guide the investigation.
