Parliamentary inquiry: Is Diomaye secretly carrying out his plan against Ousmane Sonko?

Demba Dieng, a former director of the Land Registry and adviser to Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, declined to appear before the parliamentary inquiry commission investigating land management, according to a statement issued on October 15. The presidency has not clarified whether it must authorize its staff to appear, and there is no evidence that Dieng was instructed not to attend. Former minister Daouda Ngom said he would answer his summons and claimed that six current or former ministers had refused theirs, a claim not confirmed by the commission or those involved. The commission says it will continue its investigation; Dieng’s reason for refusing and the exact number of refusals remain unknown.

It Is Delusional to Place All Hopes on Government: Citizens Must Also Help Themselves Amid Hardship, Says Obi Achebe

Obi Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, traditional ruler of the Onitsha Kingdom, said at the Ofala Festival on Friday at Ezechima Square that it was delusional to place all hopes in the government. Citing the 2026 theme, “Igbambo, Iganiru” (“strive and advance”), he urged people to endure hardship and legally pursue their own causes. Achebe also called on Nigerians, particularly people in the South-East, to participate in the coming elections and said the Osun State governorship election should serve as a benchmark for the 2027 general elections. He urged political parties to reject violence and non-partisan groups to step up efforts to promote free and fair polls.

2027: Step down if you are not working for Tinubu, Adeyanju tells Peter Obi and Kwankwaso

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju urged Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, and his running mate Rabiu Kwankwaso to quit the 2027 race if they are not working for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election. In a post on X, Adeyanju said their withdrawal would convince him they were no longer backing Tinubu, as he accused them of doing in 2023, and urged Nigerians not to vote for them. Kwankwaso countered that Obi’s popularity in the South and mobilisation of support in the North were keeping Tinubu awake at night. Kwankwaso also said he had asked Fulani groups to persuade African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Atiku Abubakar to withdraw.
