Parliament’s Dissolution: President Bassirou Diomaye Faye Further Consolidated

After the rejection of the 2026 amended finance bill, the opposition group Takku Wallu Sénégal is calling for the National Assembly to be dissolved and for early legislative elections. Its president, Me Aïssata Tall Sall, made the demand on November 5, accusing the Pastef majority of rejecting the bill without debate and restricting the expression of different political views. The Constitution allows President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to dissolve the Assembly after obtaining specified opinions, but bars dissolution during the first two years of a parliamentary term. Since the current term began on December 2, 2024, that power will become available only on December 2, 2026.
