Nepali mountaineers have cleared a route past a huge chunk of ice on Everest that blocked climbers for two weeks. Icefall doctors have fixed ropes up to Camp 2, located at approximately 6,400 to 6,500 meters high. Although some risks remain, climbers can now move towards the camps for acclimatization. About 425 climbers have permits to summit this year, generating significant revenue for the Nepalese government.
