Peace agreement between Wazalendo and residents of Walikale

Groups of Volunteer for Defense (VDP) active in the Wanianga sector, Waloa-Uroba grouping, Walikale territory (North Kivu), and the civilian population buried the hatchet on June 7, 2026. The agreement was reached after a three-day dialogue in Ntoto, organized by the territorial youth council of Walikale with MONUSCO support. Participants, including politico-administrative authorities, VDP leaders (notably the Uhuru group of self-proclaimed general Mashite), and delegates of the 34th military region, committed to prioritizing peaceful coexistence. According to GAPE coordinator Bams Bayomba Mishiki, both sides apologized.
