Peru probes trafficking of citizens to fight for Russia in Ukraine

Peru has launched an investigation into an alleged human trafficking network that lured citizens with false job promises in Russia, leading them to fight in the war against Ukraine. According to the prosecutor's office, around 600 Peruvians have been recruited since last October, with promised monthly salaries between $2,000 and $3,000. Thirteen Peruvians have reportedly died in the conflict, and families have protested demanding the repatriation of their loved ones. The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sought clarification from the Russian embassy regarding the situation of citizens serving in the Russian military.
