Photos: Community unites in Senegal’s Dakar to clean dilapidated school

Students, teachers, and volunteers in a working-class neighborhood of Dakar have come together to clean Medina Gounass Elementary School ahead of the 2026-27 school year, sweeping classrooms, clearing drains, and collecting waste. The effort aims to prepare the school for reopening and raise awareness about environmental protection and shared responsibility. Medina Gounass, like many outlying districts of Dakar, faces issues such as poor waste management, blocked drains, and overcrowded classrooms, especially during the rainy season.
