PI-SPI: Nearly 15 Billion FCFA in Transactions in Togo by the End of October 2026

The BCEAO’s PI-SPI instant payment platform recorded nearly 15 billion FCFA in transactions in Togo by the end of October 2026, with 3.9 million users and 163,000 transactions. Across the WAEMU, it had 52.3 million users and 2.2 million transactions. Since November 2, interoperable electronic money transfers between individuals must go through PI-SPI; domestic transfers totaling up to 8,000 FCFA per day are free, as are incoming transactions. The BCEAO aims to expand use of the service, including among students, while the free transfers could reduce commission revenue for operators such as Mixx by Yas and Moov Money.

At the FER and AGEROUTE’s 25th anniversary, Téné Birahima Ouattara calls for roads to be preserved “at all costs”

At a ceremony in Abidjan marking the 25th anniversary of the Road Maintenance Fund (FER) and AGEROUTE, Téné Birahima Ouattara urged officials to preserve existing roads amid rising traffic, overloaded trucks and climate change. He set out four priorities: provide regular maintenance funding, curb overloading, adapt infrastructure to climate conditions, and expand access to public contracts for SMEs and young people. Under the 2026–2030 National Development Plan, AGEROUTE is expected to improve project preparation and oversight, while the FER is to strengthen maintenance funding and improve toll performance. Mariatou Koné said the FER had paid more than 98% of invoiced maintenance work from 2023 to 2025, amounting to 551 billion CFA francs.
