Pink October: 43 Suspected Breast and Cervical Cancer Cases Recorded in Three Health Zones in the Kivus

The Pink October campaign run in October by the DRC’s Girls Reporters Clubs reached nearly 600 people in the Bunyakiri and Kalonge health zones in South Kivu and Itebero in North Kivu. It provided free consultations to 113 women and identified 43 suspected cases, including one considered probable in Bunyakiri. Bunyakiri chief medical officer Dr. Marquis Chiralo said further tests are needed to confirm or rule out the disease. Health and community officials are calling for more resources so the women concerned can learn their true health status.
