Plateau NDC Governorship Crisis: Peter Obi Accused of Taking Sides

Comrade Iliya Abdullahi, a Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) official in Plateau State, accused presidential candidate Peter Obi of favouring Alfred Ali Dapal in the dispute over the party’s governorship ticket. Dapal, a former PDP primary contender, joined the NDC and was declared the preferred candidate by Plateau NDC chairman Solomon Ndam after a substitution primary on September 15, 2026. Da Jonathan Sunday Akuns is recognised as the legitimate candidate by the NDC national chairman, while Dapal is challenging the ticket in court. Abdullahi said Obi’s perceived closeness to Dapal undermines Akuns and threatens the party’s unity and credibility.
