Amadou Athié announced on October 29, 2026, in Matam that he was leaving PASTEF, the party led by Ousmane Sonko. He intends to put his experience at the service of the political movement led by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, while remaining active in politics. A founding member of PASTEF in Matam, he also coordinated the party at the University of Thiès and the Senegalese Patriotic Youth in the Matam region. He cited a gap between the values behind his initial commitment and some practices he says he has observed within the party, summing up his position: “Only the framework changes, not the conviction.”
