Police arrest NSCDC officer after shooting at Kubwa market

Police in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory arrested Onoja Samuel, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), after shots were fired at Kubwa market in Abuja. Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh said the incident occurred around 1:50 p.m. on October 25, 2026, after a distress call reported a man firing a pistol into the air. Preliminary findings indicate Samuel went to the market armed after reports that traders had assaulted his wife; police recovered a pistol and 17 rounds of 9mm ammunition. He remains in custody pending investigation and will be charged in court, while Commissioner Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi urged personnel from other security agencies to show restraint and coordinate operations with local police.

Odibola Properties, Mezie and the Danger of Trial by Social Media: Facts Must Prevail Over Allegations

Odibola Properties Limited disputes allegations by Chimezie Princewill Onwuka, known as Mezie, about contested family land in Mbodo-Aluu, Rivers State. The company says it did not buy the land directly from Fabulous Amaewhule but became involved under a Power of Attorney granted by an association of medical doctors after an out-of-court settlement with Amaewhule, whom it identifies as a judgment creditor in earlier proceedings. Its CEO, Oshobukola Sunny Isaac, received the Anti-Land Grabbing Advocate of the Year 2026 Award on 24 October, though the article notes that recognition does not replace legal verification. It urges scrutiny of the relevant documents before judgment and acknowledges that a Power of Attorney alone does not establish ownership.

Coffee-cocoa sector: SYNARFA-CI demands transparency, fair compensation and the release of cooperatives

SYNARFA-CI is concerned by the referral of cooperative officials to the Economic and Financial Police and the precautionary suspension of Thibault Yoro announced by OIA Café-Cacao CI. In its October 25 statement, the OIA said payments were allegedly sought to facilitate cocoa unloading, while cooperatives reported paying without receiving the promised unloading; it said Yoro had no mandate for these efforts. The union says the allegations must be investigated while respecting the presumption of innocence and calls for an independent audit of residual stocks and the entire operation. Cooperative presidents reportedly said that people claiming to belong to the OIA collected as much as 100 million CFA francs; SYNARFA-CI wants the audit findings published and corrective action taken.
