Police detain leaders of India’s ‘cockroach’ movement at New Delhi protest | Elections News | Al Jazeera

Delhi Police detained leaders of India’s youth-led ‘cockroach’ movement after they jumped barricades to enter the protest site at Jantar Mantar, calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over voter list revisions. Leaders Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das, Ajinkya Shinde, and about 20 volunteers were detained as they attempted to reclaim the site. Despite the police’s removal of Jantar Mantar as an official protest location and the identification of new venues, the protesters continued their demonstration and were arrested. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke stated that government efforts to block the site would not deter their campaign.
