Police recover corpse after bandits attack funeral convoy in Kogi

The body of Augustine Ikwue, an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), was recovered by Kogi State Police after bandits attacked a funeral convoy along the Ochadamu–Ejule Expressway on July 9, 2026. The assailants abducted several occupants. Security forces including police, military, and vigilantes launched a rescue operation and recovered the abandoned vehicle and casket. The remains were deposited at Elemona Mortuary in Ejule.

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore described the arrest of the self-acclaimed Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, as 'the biggest cover-up ever.' Sowore alleged that the arrest and reported dehumanisation of Adeyemi suggest an official cover-up rather than a genuine search for truth, and called for the arrest and investigation of President Tinubu's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. He further claimed that the individual alleged to have collected a ₦400 million bribe on Gbajabiamila's behalf has died under mysterious circumstances, and the hotel used for the transaction has been demolished. Adeyemi was arrested after a warrant was issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges of forgery, fraud, and impersonation.
