Political Violence 2021-2024: Alioune Tine Welcomes the Opening of a Prosecutor's Investigation

Alioune Tine welcomed the decision of the Dakar prosecutor's office to open an investigation into political violence in Senegal from 2021 to 2024, which resulted in 76 deaths and over 200 victims of torture or inhumane treatment. He emphasized the urgency of addressing impunity to prevent repeated crimes and highlighted the importance of prevention through education on human rights and citizenship. The investigations, conducted between October 2025 and September 2026 by the Gendarmerie’s Research Section, recorded 41 deaths in the Dakar region.
