Polls open in closely contested US midterm elections 2026

Polls opened in several US states for the November 3 midterm elections, with all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats up for election. More than 57 million Americans have already voted early, with heavy turnout in battlegrounds including Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas. Voters in 36 states are also electing governors. Democrats have focused on the cost-of-living crisis and ending the war on Iran, while Republicans hope to hold their narrow congressional majorities despite Donald Trump’s low approval ratings.

After adopting the motion, the House urged the authorities to verify and pay all legally owed arrears within a clearly defined period.

They say the new list conflicts with an earlier presidential directive naming Governor Ademola Adeleke to lead the state campaign, after which he inaugurated a broad-based team. The dissenting members urge the APC’s national leadership, especially its National Secretary, to intervene, prevent division and clarify the committees’ responsibilities.
