Pope Leo XIV is due to leave Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Saturday afternoon, four days after a 90-minute operation to remove the cancerous lower lobe of his right lung. His doctors reported steady improvement, but results of tests to determine whether the cancer has spread have not yet been announced. The Vatican says he plans to give the Angelus prayer in St Peter’s Square on Sunday. On Friday, he also urged Vladimir Putin to pursue dialogue and peace and called for a humanitarian ceasefire in Oleshkiy to enable evacuations and deliveries of food and medicine.
