Power generation falls to 3,659 MW as government explains supply disruptions

Electricity generation on Nigeria’s national grid fell to 3,659 MW at 3 p.m. on Thursday, down from a peak of 3,996 MW the previous day. The government blamed gas shortages at thermal plants, reduced water inflows into hydroelectric reservoirs, and operational and maintenance challenges, while ruling out a major or systemic grid failure. The 11 distribution companies received a combined 3,031 MW, with Abuja getting the largest allocation at 669 MW and Yola the smallest at 74 MW. Power Minister Joseph Tegbe is working with TCN, NISO and the distribution companies to address constraints and restore normal supply.
