Private land, rapid growth hamper services in Cape Town’s Jim se Bos
Private land ownership and the rapid expansion of Jim se Bos informal settlement are hampering improvements to sanitation, electricity, waste management and roads, Ward 43 councillor Alderman Elton Jansen says. The City of Cape Town continues to provide basic services, but legal and operational constraints limit further infrastructure investment; illegal land sales are also driving growth and worsening waste problems. Jansen says he remains in direct contact with residents and local leaders and works with City Health and organisations such as Love in Action on health screenings and community outreach. The lack of formal electricity connections and the use of illegal connections pose a serious fire hazard.
