Protests break out across Syria over fuel price increases

Protests have erupted in several cities across Syria after the government raised fuel prices, with demonstrators blocking a main highway for several hours. Prices were increased by 40% for diesel and 28% for petrol due to a rise in global costs. Syria is currently producing about 102,000 barrels of oil per day, while it needs 325,000 barrels for domestic consumption.
