Protests pass off peacefully after two nights of unrest

About 170 people gathered at a protest in Whiteabbey on Thursday evening, while around 100 people blocked the Newtownards Road in east Belfast. Both protests passed off without incident after two nights of unrest. Police deployed extra officers and a senior officer said there was no evidence of paramilitary coordination but that the disorder was fueled by social media activity.
