PS Bitok Urges Schools to Consider Postponing Mock Exams Amid Continued Unrest in Schools

Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has asked schools to postpone mock exams, saying the tests fuel tension and trigger student unrest. He largely attributes the unrest to examinations and shifting schedules, citing the Utumishi Girls dormitory fire that killed 16 girls. Around 80 secondary schools have experienced unrest, including arson and precautionary walkouts. The government has deployed 1,000 quality assurance officers and ordered a national audit of all boarding schools.
