PSK Appeals to County Governments to Crack Down on Unlicensed Pharmacies

The Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) has urged county governments to ensure pharmaceutical outlets have valid licenses before operating. It emphasized that a county-issued business permit does not authorize pharmacy practice, which is regulated nationally. The society called for closer collaboration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board to identify and remove unlicensed outlets and unqualified practitioners, highlighting that the number of pharmacists is not the sole measure of access to pharmaceutical care. Their appeal coincides with efforts by the Ministry of Health and PPB to combat counterfeit and substandard medicines.
