PSL’s late postponement of election-day matches threatens fixture pile-up
The PSL postponed all matches scheduled for 4 November 2026, South Africa’s local election day and a public holiday, but the late decision could create a fixture backlog. Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals were initially scheduled for 6–8 November, with 3 November an alternative for some matches; Mamelodi Sundowns may need to reschedule their tie against Golden Arrows because they are due to face USM Alger in the CAF Super Cup final at Loftus Versfeld on 8 November. The following two-week international window includes Bafana Bafana’s back-to-back 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Kenya on 13 and 17 November. The Carling Knockout semi-finals are scheduled after the FIFA break, before the league resumes on 21 November.
