Public Health: Over 9,000 Cases and 18 Deaths, Large Vaccination Campaign Against Measles Announced

Cameroon is launching a nationwide vaccination campaign against measles and rubella from October 14 to 18, 2026, targeting children aged 9 to 59 months across ten regions. This follows reports of over 9,000 cases and 18 deaths related to these diseases, as announced by Dr. Shalom Ndoula of the Expanded Program on Immunization. The goal is to reach about 95% vaccination coverage to limit the spread, complications, and fatalities. Measles, highly contagious, spreads mainly through the air and can remain infectious for up to two hours on surfaces or in the air.
