In early 2024, construction of 1000 social housing units for disaster victims in Matadi-Kibala, funded by the Congolese government with $43.155 million, began under the Turkish company MILVEST. However, after two years, the site is halted, workers are on strike demanding their wages, and the prefabricated houses are abandoned, lacking roofs and windows. Village chief Ipipo Luzolo Blanchard denounces the sabotage of the project, while residents express frustration over the situation.
