After nearly eight months away, Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) fighters attacked Maikengu in the Bapere sector of North Kivu on Tuesday, November 3. Nziapanda’s state representative said the attackers, accompanied by women and children, looted and then burned homes and businesses, including pharmacies; no detailed casualty figures were available. Residents fled toward Kambau and Nziapanda as the Congolese army deployed troops to the area. Maikengu was also the first village attacked in the ADF’s initial incursion into Bapere in June 2024, when 42 people were killed.
