R6.18 million bill for Mchunu and Cachalia as Kraaifontein awaits station

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia disclosed that his remuneration package cost R3,024,834.58 between August 2025 and August 2026, while Senzo Mchunu’s cost R3,162,529.90 over the same period. Taxpayers have spent over R6.18 million on both ministers since Mchunu was placed on special leave last year. Meanwhile, Kraaifontein, a high-crime area in Cape Town, remains without a dedicated police station, with plans for a new facility delayed for up to a decade despite its ranking as one of the top crime hotspots nationally.
