Ramaphosa's grand plan to tackle GBV

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced four immediate measures to combat gender-based violence and femicide following the discovery of multiple women's bodies in Ekurhuleni over the past two months. He acknowledged the government's failure to protect women and that the crisis continues despite previous efforts. Ramaphosa ordered an audit within 60 days to identify unresolved crimes against women and children and issued directives to government officials to strengthen the fight against violence. Approximately 50,511 GBVF cases were registered in 2025/26, with over 30,736 arrests or referrals to the justice system.
