REA powers Kano communities with mini-grids after 16 years without electricity

Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA) commissioned mini-grids in Ballagaza and Marayar Rogo, Kano State, ending more than 16 years without electricity and serving 2,222 households. The systems have capacities of 195 kWp and 70 kWp, respectively, and were funded and will be operated by Alfuttaim Nigeria Limited with a subsidy through the World Bank-supported DARES programme. REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu said DARES is working toward 1,350 mini-grids and has already provided new or improved electricity to more than five million Nigerians. The power is expected to support agricultural processing and supply the local primary healthcare centre, which previously operated without electricity.

They note that Kashal did not publicly accuse his predecessor, Ahmed Kalej Kand, when he took office in 2022, and call on Beleshayi to show restraint and ensure continuity in public service.
