Reopening of the border between Benin and Niger becomes clearer

Benin and Niger are moving towards reopening their shared border. Technical experts from both countries completed 15 days of work and submitted results to Presidents Romuald Wadagni and Abdourahamane Tiani. The border has been closed since July 2023 after the Niger coup and ECOWAS sanctions. Niger had opposed reopening due to French military presence in Cotonou, but the situation has changed.
