Reps Pass Vote of Confidence in Tinubu and NNPC Chief

The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) dismissed a petition accusing NNPC Executive Vice President for Downstream Mumuni Dagazau of conflict of interest and money laundering, saying it lacked documentary evidence. Committee chairman Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere said petitioners submitted newspaper clippings and failed to provide requested documents, while Dagazau responded to the committee through representatives. The committee also passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu and NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, citing progress in domestic refining, crude supply and stability in the downstream sector. It opposed restoring a nationwide fuel subsidy, estimating that subsidising about 50 million litres of petrol consumed daily would cost more than N20 trillion annually.

In its final statement, read by Delly Sessanga, it rejected constitutional changes that could enable a third presidential term or postpone the 2028 elections, and called for Article 220 to be respected. The coalition called for inclusive national dialogue, saying the crisis has no military solution, and urged better coordination between the Doha process and African facilitation led by Angola and Togo. It also stressed the need to uphold the ceasefire, protect civilians and ensure humanitarian access.
